USHAURI: Rais mstaafu wa Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo amemtaka rais Muhammadu Buhari kutowania kiti cha urais kwenye uchaguzi mkuu wa mwakani.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has written an open letter asking the current president Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for the second term in the next general election.

Mr Obasanjo has also criticized President Buhari’s inept understanding of Nigeria's social and economic dynamics.

Nigeria is due to hold a general election next year.

Mr Obasanjo who supported Mr Buhari in 2015 election said that the president should retire because of age and ill health.

He also said he is disappointed with Mr Buhari, particularly because of what he calls his poor handling of Nigeria's economy, the largest in Africa.

President Buhari has not responded to the letter and it is not clear whether he will seek re-election.
